Overview
Amateur operators who want SSB and CW on the ten meter band get a compact transceiver that mounts in a vehicle or stands on a desk with a power supply. Dual watch monitors two channels at once.
SSB and CW let you reach long distance stations when the band is open, which plain FM radios cannot. The listing never gives the transmit power, and a home setup needs a separate supply.
Who it's for
Ham operators chasing distant contacts or contests on ten meters. Truckers wanting regular CB channels should look at a CB radio.
Pros and cons
- SSB, CW, AM and FM
- Noise reduction and auto squelch
- SWR and voltage protection
- VOX hands free
- Transmit power not listed
- Needs a power supply at home
- Not water resistant
Performance notes
Reach depends on the antenna, band conditions and SWR; the radio protects itself if the antenna mismatch is high. RF gain and noise reduction help pull weak signals out of road noise.
