Overview
Helinox builds the Chair Zero LT for backpackers who weigh every item, stretching a GhostGrid mesh seat over a folding aluminum frame. It packs into its carrying case and sets up as an armless, upright seat with a mesh back that lets air through.
Carry weight is the whole argument here, since the chair adds almost nothing to a pack and still supports a full-size adult. The compact seat is narrow and upright with no arms, so treat it as a perch for camp rather than a chair to lounge in for hours.
Who it's for
Thru-hikers and fastpackers trimming their load get back support at camp for very little weight. Larger users and anyone who wants arms or a tall back will feel cramped in it.
Pros and cons
- Extremely light for a framed chair
- Mesh seat and back breathe in heat
- Ripstop GhostGrid fabric
- Packs into included carrying case
- Compact seat can feel narrow
- Single fixed position, no recline
- Seat height not listed
Performance notes
Comfort comes from the tension of the GhostGrid mesh across the frame, which supports the body without padding and lets air move through. Straight legs put the load on small contact points, so soft ground can let them press in. Weight savings come from the thin fabric and slim aluminum frame, which also limit how big the seat can be.
