Overview
Rooftops, attics and balconies in suburban or rural areas suit the Televes Ellipse Mix, a triple boom directional antenna with a built in amplifier that adjusts gain by band. Filters cut interference from FM and cellular signals.
Viewers far from towers get automatic gain that avoids both weak signal and overload. The antenna is directional and covers only the upper VHF and UHF bands, so stations in other directions or on low VHF may drop.
Who it's for
Cord cutters in suburbs and rural areas with towers in one direction will get strong reception. Apartment dwellers without roof or attic access need an indoor antenna.
Pros and cons
- Automatic gain control
- Cellular and FM filtering
- Passes signal unpowered
- Corrosion resistant build
- No low VHF coverage
- Directional, aim matters
- Large for small attics
Performance notes
Reception depends on aiming the triple boom toward the towers, since the design favors one direction. The preamp adjusts gain separately for each band to avoid overload from strong nearby stations. Filtering above the TV band reduces interference from cellular sites.
