Overview
A parent sending kids around the campground or the backyard gets three light FRS radios with a backlit screen, flashlight and lanyards. The Baofeng camo set charges over USB and scans channels with simple key combos.
License free channels, a flashlight and weather alerts in a small body cover most family outings. Rain and splashes are a risk, and the real range shrinks fast among trees or buildings.
Who it's for
Families, scout groups and backyard players get three radios ready to share. Paddlers and anyone out in steady rain should look for a waterproof model.
Pros and cons
- License free FRS channels
- NOAA weather reception
- USB charging anywhere
- Not water resistant
- Range drops among buildings and trees
- Camo is the only color listed
Performance notes
FRS radios run on low power, so the top range only appears in open, line of sight terrain. Hills, trees and walls cut it down, while the scan feature helps find a busy channel to avoid.
