Overview
Mac desks and MacBook bags suit this silver WD drive, which comes formatted for Mac and works with Time Machine as soon as it is plugged in over USB. A password unlocks hardware encryption.
No reformatting means Time Machine backups start right away on a Mac. Password-protected encryption guards files if the drive goes missing. Capacity is modest, enough for a lighter Mac but not a large photo archive.
Who it's for
Mac users with modest storage needs get Time Machine backups with no setup. Windows users and those needing large capacity should look elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Mac formatted out of the box
- Time Machine compatible
- Password and hardware encryption
- Three year warranty
- Windows use needs reformatting
- Included cable not detailed
Performance notes
Time Machine runs straight away because the drive ships in the Mac file format. Transfer speed depends on the spinning disk inside and the USB port used. Encryption works in hardware after the password is set.
