Overview
A mechanical hard disk inside a slim navy metal and glass shell gives this WD My Passport for Mac its large capacity, formatted for macOS out of the box. A USB-A cable with a USB-C adapter connects it to either port type.
Mac users with growing photo and video libraries get room to spare plus password protection, with no reformatting. Outside macOS it may need a reformat, and transfers move at mechanical drive pace.
Who it's for
Made for Mac owners whose photo and music libraries have outgrown internal storage. People working live off the drive, like editors scrubbing footage, need faster storage.
Pros and cons
- Large capacity in a pocketable case
- Mac formatted out of the box
- USB-C adapter included
- Password and backup software
- Mechanical drive speed
- Reformat needed outside macOS
- Write speed not listed
Performance notes
Read speed is limited by the spinning disk rather than the cable, so big transfers run at a steady but modest pace. Password protection and backups run through the bundled software.
