Overview
Not a Windows-first drive, this navy WD My Passport for Mac arrives formatted for macOS with room for big photo, music and document libraries. Password protection software and a USB-C adapter come in the box.
Mac owners get archive-level capacity in a small metal case, ready to use without reformatting. Its speed is set by a spinning disk, so it suits backups and storage more than live editing.
Who it's for
Suited to Mac photographers and families consolidating years of files in one place. Users on other systems face a reformat first.
Pros and cons
- Large capacity in a small case
- Mac formatted on arrival
- USB-C adapter in the box
- Password protection software
- Spinning disk limits speed
- Reformat needed outside macOS
- Write speed not listed
Performance notes
Throughput is set by the spinning disk, not the cable or adapter, so large first backups take patience. Password protection is managed through the included software.
