Overview
Scheduling hourly, daily or monthly backups, this WD easystore desktop drive pairs a large spinning disk with WD Backup and WD Discovery software. It plugs into a computer over USB and runs from its own AC adapter.
Huge capacity plus scheduled backup software makes it a set-and-forget backup for a home PC. It is a desktop drive that needs wall power, and Mac owners must reformat it first.
Who it's for
Families and creators backing up big media libraries from a desk get lots of room and automatic scheduling. Anyone moving files between places should buy a portable drive instead.
Pros and cons
- Very large capacity
- Scheduled backup software
- Time Machine support on Mac
- Backward compatible with USB 2.0
- Needs AC power
- Mac use requires reformatting
- Spinning disk is shock sensitive
Performance notes
Real transfer speed is set by the spinning disk inside, which runs well below the USB interface limit. Scheduled backups run in the background on the timing you choose. Reformatting for Time Machine erases the drive, so do it before saving files.
