Overview
Not a pocket drive, this LaCie RAID is a two-bay desktop enclosure holding enterprise-class hard drives. A setup wizard configures it for speed by striping data or for safety by mirroring, and failed drives swap out while it runs.
Hardware RAID with a recovery service gives creatives both capacity and a safety net for client work. Mirroring for redundancy halves the usable space, and spinning drives are slower than SSD storage.
Who it's for
Indie filmmakers, YouTubers and studios get large capacity and redundancy on the desk. Laptop users on the move should look at a portable SSD.
Pros and cons
- Speed or redundancy choice
- Long warranty with data recovery
- Works over USB-C and USB-A
- Mirroring halves usable space
- Spinning drives, not SSD
- Cables in box not listed
Performance notes
Striping two drives together combines their speed, while mirroring writes everything twice so one drive can fail without loss. High-speed enterprise drives sustain large video files. Throughput is bounded by the drives, not the USB link.
