Overview
A spinning hard disk rides inside a rubber and aluminum shell on this LaCie drive, which absorbs drops, crush and rain on the move. It connects over USB to PCs and Macs, and recovery support covers lost files.
Travelers and photographers get large storage, physical protection and a data recovery plan in one purchase. Its speed is that of a spinning disk, so editing directly from it is sluggish.
Who it's for
Field shooters, students and road warriors who carry backups in a bag suit it. Creators working live from external storage should look at an SSD.
Pros and cons
- Rubber bumper resists drops and rain
- Data Rescue Service included
- Works with PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone
- Compact and pocketable
- Slower than SSD storage
- USB 3.0 cable, no USB-C listed
- Mechanical disk sensitive while running
Performance notes
Transfer speed is set by the spinning disk, and the troubleshooting notes warn that an older USB port or shared hub slows it further. The rugged shell absorbs knocks, but the drive also spins down in sleep and needs time to wake.
