Overview
Backing up laptops and desktops across a team, this case of WD My Passport drives gives each user a slim, password protected drive. Hardware encryption guards the files, and included backup software adds ransomware defense.
Large capacity per drive and built-in encryption suit offices that hand out backup drives. Spinning disks transfer slower and handle drops worse than flash storage.
Who it's for
Small businesses, schools and photographers with several machines get matching backup drives. Editors needing SSD speeds or anyone wanting only one drive should look at single packs.
Pros and cons
- Six drives in one order
- Large capacity per drive
- Hardware encryption and password
- Backup software included
- Mechanical drives are slower than SSDs
- Six pack is a lot for one home
Performance notes
A spinning disk reads and writes at speeds set by its platters, so large backups take time compared with flash. Hardware encryption runs on the drive, so the computer does not slow down.
