Overview
Freeing up a full laptop drive is the main use: plug this WD drive into a Windows PC, drag files across and the internal disk has room again. It comes formatted NTFS with a USB cable.
Plug-and-play setup on Windows makes it easy for anyone to add space. A trial of backup software adds automatic and Dropbox copies for a while. The warranty is short, and Mac users must reformat first.
Who it's for
Students and home users with crowded Windows laptops get easy extra storage. Mac owners and anyone wanting long warranty cover should choose another model.
Pros and cons
- Plug and play on Windows
- Works on USB 2.0 and 3.0
- Backup software trial included
- Light portable body
- Backup software is a trial only
- Mac requires reformatting
Performance notes
Copy speed depends on the internal spinning disk and the USB port, with newer ports running faster. Moving large files frees space quickly, while many small files take longer. Compatibility can vary with hardware and operating system.
