Overview
A Mac desk or laptop bag is where this WD drive belongs, ready for Time Machine backups out of the box. A USB-C connection plugs into newer Macs, and password protection uses hardware encryption.
Mac owners get backup storage that works the moment it is plugged in, with encryption and a metal cover. It is a spinning hard drive, so it is slower than an SSD, and PCs need a reformat.
Who it's for
Mac laptops and desktops that need a big backup target suit this drive. Video editors who need fast scratch storage should choose an SSD.
Pros and cons
- Formatted for macOS out of the box
- Hardware encryption with password
- Backup software with ransomware defense
- Needs reformatting for Windows
- Mechanical drive, slower than SSD
- Transfer speed not clearly listed
Performance notes
Copy speed depends on the spinning disk inside and the USB link, so large libraries take time. Hardware encryption runs on the drive itself, which spares the Mac processor from the work.
