Overview
Not a pocket drive, the LaCie Professional is a desktop hard drive in an aluminum case built for creatives whose laptops have limited internal storage. It holds an enterprise-class BarraCuda Pro drive and connects over USB-C for editing and archiving large projects.
Enterprise-class mechanics and a five-year warranty with data recovery suit long-term archives. Speeds are strong for a hard drive, though below flash storage.
Who it's for
Creatives with full libraries and small internal drives get a big desktop archive with long coverage. Field shooters who carry storage should choose a portable SSD.
Pros and cons
- Enterprise-class drive inside
- Aluminum case cuts noise and vibration
- Five-year warranty with recovery
- Adobe membership included
- Desktop drive, not portable
- Included cables not listed
Performance notes
A fast-spinning enterprise drive reaches high sequential speeds, which suits large video and photo files. The aluminum case damps noise and vibration from the mechanism. Random access with many small files is slower than flash storage.
