ELECTECK GF-15-W-5PK GFCI Outlet 15 AmpModel GF-15These 4 ground fault circuit interrupter outlets have the highest ProductDome scores among the established products in this category, meaning ones with a large volume of owner ratings and strong evidence; on a tie, the product with more rating evidence ranks first. The score combines owner satisfaction, rating volume, demand and data quality from public Amazon listings (updated 3 days ago). We do not test products ourselves.
Leviton, Elegrp, Electeck, Legrand, Amico lead this category among the 9 brands that passed our curation checks.
A listing appears only when it has a recorded price, a minimum customer rating, and enough ratings or monthly sales. Generic and unbranded listings are left out, while every real brand stays, including brands sold only on Amazon. The ones that pass are ordered by the ProductDome score, which weighs owner satisfaction, rating volume, demand and data quality.
Ground fault circuit interrupter outlets come as receptacles with test and reset buttons, with versions intended for ordinary indoor locations and versions marked weather resistant. Some can also protect receptacles farther along the same circuit, making the location of the reset buttons consequential when a fault interrupts power elsewhere. Start by matching the outlet’s electrical rating to the circuit and the equipment you intend to connect.
Amperage is a compatibility requirement, not an upgrade to select simply because a larger value is available. Among the 24 products that list amperage, most fall between 15 and 20 amps, and 15 amps is typical. The receptacle rating must be appropriate for the circuit’s wiring, breaker and receptacle arrangement; have an electrician establish that match if the existing installation is unclear. Match the listed voltage and plug configuration to your supply and equipment as well. A higher rated receptacle does not increase the circuit’s available power, and ground fault protection does not replace the breaker’s protection against overloads. For appliances sharing a circuit, their combined demand matters even when they plug into separate receptacles.
Next, choose features for the installation location. For an outdoor position, look for an explicit weather resistant designation and a cover suitable for the exposure, including whether protection is maintained while a plug is inserted; the receptacle itself is not a waterproof enclosure. Tamper resistant shutters are a separate feature to look for where access by children is a concern. Automatic self-testing and status indicators also vary: compare what the listing says each light means and whether the device stops supplying power when protection fails. An indicator that shows power is present is not necessarily an indication that protection is functioning.
Before purchase, compare the device’s depth and wiring space requirements with the existing electrical box, since a crowded box can make replacement difficult. The manual should specify accepted wire materials, wire sizes and terminal arrangements, including any conditions for protecting downstream receptacles. A Copper or Plastic entry in the material filter does not identify every component or establish wiring compatibility. Establish whether the wall plate, mounting hardware and any required labels are supplied or sold separately. Finally, read the manual’s testing schedule and replacement instructions: automatic self-testing may still require regular use of the test and reset buttons.
